Help with ideas for kitchen renovation?

January 30, 2008 By: admin Category: Kitchen 3 Comments →

nikkers asked:

I am moving & want to redo the kitchen. It’s cutesy country in red checks, not my style!! The floor is light tan, the cabinets are brick red & almond & there are no appliances. I was going to paint the cabinets cream & get almond appliances, but it seems like all the appliances are either white, black or stainless. Love stainless, but too expensive..

I plan to repaint the cabinets, but don’t know what color combinations to use with the cabinets & appliances. I really don’t want all white.

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. I really like the Tuscany look with golds burgundy & greens.

Reasonably priced Italian kitchen cabinet manufactures PLEASE HELP?

January 29, 2008 By: admin Category: Kitchen 4 Comments →

Robert R asked:

Hello and thanks for looking at my question. I am in the market for kitchen cabinets. My wife and I like a contemporary look, specifically cabinets from Scavolini, Snaidero, Cesar and/or Elmar, but they are a little too expensive. Can you please list 4 or 5 Italian cabinets manufactures who sell cabinets at a lower price point. We hope to find a manufacturer whos cabinets are a good value.

What is the best glue & technique for repairing a crack in a wood kitchen cabinet door?

January 28, 2008 By: admin Category: Kitchen 6 Comments →

Buckabinga asked:

I have a wood (maple) kitchen cabinet door that has developed a crack that is about to split the door lengthwise if I don’t do something soon. I want to glue it but I want to use the best glue for that so the door stays together and doesn’t make it look messy. If I am unable to repair this crack I am afraid I will have to replace all my kitchen doors (about 20) to make sure they match. I don’t want to do that since we are going to move in a year or two.

Tax on rental expenses - renovation or fixing?

January 28, 2008 By: admin Category: Kitchen 3 Comments →

Tax L asked:

I bought my first house in 2007 which me and my wife live in and rent out half of it. Before renting it out, we had it considerably renovated (new floors, paint, tiles, new kitchen cabinets, all new applicanes) even in the rental portion.
I know that my part of renovation will go into the basis (value of my house), but can I calim what I spent on the rental portion as a deductible expense? This was done before the tenants moved in. Also, I did have some repairs after the tenants moved in and requested them.
So, if I hired someone to do the floors and fix a broken sink, paint, repair a leaking pipe, for $10000, how do I divide that myself so as to claim a portion as expense and the other as improvement. IRS will accept my own estimates on this and not come after me in an audit?
I found the answer on www.irss.gov

” If you make repairs as part of an extensive remodeling or restoration of your property, the whole job is an improvement.”

Thanks guys.

Can somone recomend a good carpenter or company for a small kitchen remodeling job in St.Paul/West St.Paul MN?

January 26, 2008 By: admin Category: Kitchen 1 Comment →

andrewTX98 asked:

We are going to do New countertops(formica), new sink, new disposal, minor cutting of old cabinets, new appliances hooked up, etc. Would prefer a licensed company that can do this all rather than having one guy do counters, one plumber, etc. But will listen to other suggestions.

Where is the best place to mount kitchen cabinet hardware on a horizontal drawer?

January 19, 2008 By: admin Category: Kitchen 3 Comments →

Rambo asked:

I’m looking to add kitchen cabinet hardware/handles to horizontal drawers and I’ve seen them placed in various positions. I’ve seen them most frequently dead center and above center (for lower drawers). I’m guessing dead center is the way to go but I’m curious if anyone else has a different take. Thanks!
