We are trying to have a good look without the big bucks and wanted recess lights but want to know also if it’s possible to put (what type of lighting) right on top of new kitchen cabinets that we are going to install ourselves? Has anyone tryed other type of lighting on top of their cabinets and were you happy with the results?

What are the benefits of hiring an architect vs an interior designer for a major home renovation?

April 29, 2008 By: admin Category: Kitchen 5 Comments →

karamavin asked:

The renovation will include completely replacing a kitchen and two bathrooms, cosmetic changes to most of the rest of the interior, updating the exterior, and possibly building an additional level on one section of the home.

Kitchen Remodeling — Where to Start?

April 23, 2008 By: admin Category: Kitchen 4 Comments →

Beth B asked:

My husband and I will be remodeling a kitchen that hasn’t been touched since 1972 - the original appliances (double-oven, range top, dishwasher, sink and fridge), cabinets, flooring and lighting have not ever been updated and are still in place.

We want to remove the carpeting and replace with hardwood or laminate and continue it throughout the house. The kitchen and adjoining “den” area are all paneled and we would like to paint over the paneling as well and we need to replace cabinet doors.

So, the main things we need to do before we move in are:
1. Pull up and replace flooring
2. Remove old appliances and install new ones
3. Remove doors from cabinets and replace with new door fronts (cabinets themselves are in good shape)
4. Paint walls
5. Install “canned” lighting instead of fluorescent lights / light fixtures

What should we do first? We’ve never remodeled anything before and are at a loss as to what to do first.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Kitchen CABINET problem?

April 22, 2008 By: admin Category: Kitchen 5 Comments →

O->–< asked:

I bought all new hardware (knobs and pulls) for my kitchen cabinets. After taking the old hardware off, I noticed that it has left marks (a bit of an indentation and a slightly lighter color of wood where the hardware covered). Is there anything I can do rather than sanding and re-staining all of my cabinets? Many thanks!
I’m pretty sure they’re oak cabinets.
Thanks for all of the great suggestions!!
