Need counter top microwave that can be built in to a new kitchen cabinet?

Frisky asked:

We are remodeling kitchen and want a microwave, 1.2 cu ft or less than can be safely built in to enclosed cabinet like a wall oven can be. We use it for defrost and frozen veggies and coffee mostly. WE would prefer to let cabinet maker do trim work and not use a trim kit, too expensive too. Thank you

What is the best way to cut a kitchen cabinet?

3lowries asked:

We are replacing drop in range with free standing and have to remove the cabinet box below. It is too tight for a jigsaw or circular saw. Will a sawzall cut it smooth enough? Will we be able to do it ourselves or should we have a cabinet maker do it???
Thanks
Cyndi
The oven has been removed-there are cabinets on both sides and formica countertop. I need to cut out the box (which was under the range) but the plywood runs all thru the entire bottom of that wall of cabinets..so I need to use a saw that can cut right up against the wall of the cabinets, to get it out. Then cut about 1 inch off the formica countertop and the new range will fit. I just dont know what is the best tool to use.

Painting Kitchen Cabinets-How to Get the Job Done Right

George Mitchell asked:

Painting your kitchen cabinets is obviously a rather time consuming job, and something that many people don’t want to do. However, it can save you a lot of money as opposed to (a) having somebody else do it for you) or (b) buying completely new cabinets.

The obvious benefits of doing this are that you will save a lot of money, but also you just get that satisfaction of knowing you accomplished it on your own. Nothing can take away that awesome feeling.

Believe it or not, painting your kitchen cabinets really isn’t difficult, but it will be time consuming and require perseverance. First off, you will want to learn something about painting, if you don’t know a lot about the topic.

Therefore, you should probably head down to the store and buy a few books on the topic, or just browse online and get the ones you need. It really isn’t hard to find free painting tips online, and I would recommend you do this if you haven’t done a lot of painting before.

Another thing you should do is to go down to your local painting shop or hardware store, as the people who work there can give you tips on how to get started and achieve the look and feel you want. I would say that the most important resource available is the internet, as there are so many free painting tips, you really can’t go wrong with this method.

If you are stuck for ideas on what color to paint the kitchen cabinets, I would recommend you browse the web and visit as many kitchen cabinets sites as possible, and just get a ton of ideas.

Jot down anything that looks interesting. This is a great way to get the juices flowing and figure out what you want your kitchen to look like. Don’t forget to match them up with the rest of your kitchen design, or the results will be disastrous.

Just because those black cabinets looked good in the kitchen you saw online doesn’t mean they would fit well in your kitchen. Once you’ve done this, now it’s time to get to work. Here are some tips to help you get the job done as well as possible.

Before you start, make sure you have used a rag and gotten rid of any food or substances off the surface to make sure it’s spotless, as these can really mess up a paint job.

Now it’s time to sand. All you need to do is go over the cabinet several times, and make sure you do it thoroughly. This can be tedious, particularly if you have a large kitchen, but it’s very necessary.

After that, you put on a primer in order to prevent the paint from peeling down the road. Which primer you utilize is dependent on the kind of paint you use.

After this, it’s time to paint, and just follow the above tips I outlined if you don’t have a lot of experience. If you do, this step will be a piece of cake.

Once the cabinet doors have dried then hang then back up, and you are good to go. As you can see, painting kitchen cabinets does take some effort, but the end result, which is better looking cabinets and a fuller wallet, is definitely worth it.

Kitchen Cabinet Knobs - How to Pick Out the Best Knobs For Your Kitchen

George Mitchell asked:

Your kitchen cabinet knobs are a lot more important to the design of your kitchen than you might think. Quite simply, even if the rest of your cabinets look great, your knobs can make or break them, so don’t overlook their importance.

Some people think of these items as one of the main parts of your cabinet design, and is very often used to bring out the rest of the cabinet. All I know is, get the wrong ones, and it can really hamper your kitchen design, even if you’ve done everything else right. Here are some tips to help you find the top kitchen cabinet knobs out there.

One of the more important things you can do is to first determine whether or not you want it to go against or along with your current paint job. In other words, if you have red cabinets, you can either choose to contrast it with white, or basically give it the same color as the rest of the cabinets so that it blends in. It just depends on how you want them to stand out, if at all.

However, whichever you choose, they have to go with your current cabinet design. This might sound obvious, but it can be very tempting to buy some nice looking knobs you see online, only to get them on your cabinets and realize they don’t go well at all.

Just because they look awesome on some picture online doesn’t mean they would work well in your kitchen, and therefore, make sure you think about whether or not they would match before you buy them.

Another important decision is the kind of material you use for your kitchen cabinet knobs. Nowadays, there are many options available to you, unlike in the olden days, where everybody basically was forced to go with brass.

Again, the overall look of the knob is affected by what kind of material you get, so don’t make this decision lightly.

It used to be that you had no choice about the shapes you wanted, but today you can not only get them in all kinds of shapes but also styles as well. You can go with the more modern look, the country knobs, rustic, etc.

Also, you can go for a more future kind of look with granite, and not only does this give it a solid look to it, but it’s also very durable, and can stand up to all kinds of wear and tear that are sure to be done on it.

You can go online and find all sorts of kitchen cabinet knobs available including weird shapes like leaves, animals, silverware shapes, etc. and the only limit to what kind you get is your own imagination. If you have younger people living there, you can get a more playful look, such as animal shapes, like I described above.

As I’m sure you can tell, if I had to sum it up, while I certainly can’t go through all the different knobs available, here’s the process I’d use to find the right one. First, sit down and go online and get a ton of ideas you can use.

Don’t edit during the brainstorming process, and just jot down anything and everything that catches you interest. Consider whether or no they would go with current cabinets and design you have. If not, discard them.

Then, I’d recommend you look for and buy them online to save yourself some money, and avoid the retail mark up price you’d pay at your local home improvement store. This will enable you to save as much as possible while still getting high quality.

Also consider buying used kitchen cabinet knobs, which are often times still high quality but much cheaper then new ones.

Help with ideas for kitchen renovation?

nikkers asked:

I am moving & want to redo the kitchen. It’s cutesy country in red checks, not my style!! The floor is light tan, the cabinets are brick red & almond & there are no appliances. I was going to paint the cabinets cream & get almond appliances, but it seems like all the appliances are either white, black or stainless. Love stainless, but too expensive..

I plan to repaint the cabinets, but don’t know what color combinations to use with the cabinets & appliances. I really don’t want all white.

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. I really like the Tuscany look with golds burgundy & greens.

Henry
