What do you call someone who takes on a house renovation project? Basically i want to use one person to do my entire house including building work, decorating, fitting kitchen and bathroom, plumbing and electrics.
I dont want a property developer i want someone to organise it all and do it themselves or hire their own people to do it.
By chance we’ve found someone who will quote for it but we want comparison quotes. I dont know what to type into google to find someone!
Afterall its not just a handy man i need. I need someone who is properly trained and skilled to corgi standards etc.

We dont need a designer as it is already designed. We just need someone to do the work and dont want to pay for designers or project managers. We just want a 1 man band and his colleagues to do all the work.

Just to clarify - the renovations are already complete and I am worried that I have already been exposed to lead, since there is quite a lot of dust all over the house…

I recently bought an old kitchen cabinet (depression era i think). One of the cupboards is a metal box - probably a bread bin (since there is no vents, I’m guessing it’s not a meat safe).
Anyway, the metal interior has this strange dusty residue on it. It kind of looks as if it was once painted, and that the paint has been stripped off leaving a residue that disintegrates into dust when I wipe it.

Does anyone know what this might be? I’m guessing it may have been an insulation product, but I don’t know what it would have been made of.

Ideally I’d like to thoroughly brush out the cupboard but I don’t know whether it’s safe to disturb. I’m not planning on storing food in the cupboard, but i am paranoid about what i may inhale when cleaning it.

My husband and I will be remodeling a kitchen that hasn’t been touched since 1972 - the original appliances (double-oven, range top, dishwasher, sink and fridge), cabinets, flooring and lighting have not ever been updated and are still in place.

We want to remove the carpeting and replace with hardwood or laminate and continue it throughout the house. The kitchen and adjoining “den” area are all paneled and we would like to paint over the paneling as well and we need to replace cabinet doors.

So, the main things we need to do before we move in are:
1. Pull up and replace flooring
2. Remove old appliances and install new ones
3. Remove doors from cabinets and replace with new door fronts (cabinets themselves are in good shape)
4. Paint walls
5. Install “canned” lighting instead of fluorescent lights / light fixtures

What should we do first? We’ve never remodeled anything before and are at a loss as to what to do first.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!
