Has anyone SUCCESSFULLY gotten rid of the smell of rotten potatoes from a kitchen cabinet?

October 21st, 2009 | by admin |
I Love Yellow asked:

I had a bag of rotten potatoes leak onto my shelf-paper lined cabinet. I changed the shelf paper, but the cabinet itself absorbed the smell, along with all the plasticware I store there. Soaking in vinegar water got most of the smell out of the plastic, but I cannot do anything about the cabinet itself. I’ve heard lots of ideas, but I’m looking for someone who has actually had success. thanks!

I haven’t had any success with Febreze or baking soda. However, I did find a product that worked for my cabinets. I’m not sure what the smell was coming from - just stale. A friend recommended a product called Fridge IT. It worked great and now I use it for lots of different area including refrigerator.
Go out and get some of these FRIDGE-IT activated carbon odor absorbers - little purple cube - not the imitations and put at least one in each cabinet. Totally unscented so it actually eliminates odor rather than covering up with some nasty fragrance and totally safe to use.
Also have two cats and i actually also use these on litter box - they are FANTASTIC No spills or chemicals to worry about. You can buy these in kitchen gadget stores or just go direct which is what I do - contact them at and ask for order form. You get it right away.
Definitely the way to go. try it.
      Good luck
