Cheap is as cheap gets. But that doesn’t mean you can’ be frugal.
You might think about replacing the hardware and painting the doors. Much cheaper than new doors and there is no “cheap” way I know of to replace or build new doors. So I go with repair and revitalize them.

Old and falling off is more an issue with the hinges.
The cheapest way to redo your cabinets would be to paint them and replace the hinges and hardware. You can also consider dressing up the doors by adding some trim work to give the appearance of a raised panel door.

use some firm, thick cardboard and paint it up. you can even decorate it to look like wood

I believe they just cut the center out of the door and tacked or stapled the chickenwire on behind. Maybe try painting the cabinets.. perhaps a distressed look?.. paint it in your main color and then after it drys, put a few light brushstrokes of another contrasting color on which you wipe almost completely off leaving only traces of it. (such as using a black main color and the wipe off color red.. or a toffee color with a dark brown as the 2nd color thats mostly wiped off. Update your door handles to help get a new look.
Maybe for a different twist on the chickenwire idea.. do the cutout but instead put in glass.(you’d have to leave or add an edge on the backside of the door to fix the glass into). You can buy something to treat the glass with at a craft store.. like a glass etching spray (in an aerosol can).. then put the wire ontop of the glass, use the etching spray.. leaving the design of the wire on the glass.. (using the wire as a stencil only- or use any cool stencil desigh). So it’ll have a neat design on the glass and you won’t be able to see stuff in the cupboards.
If you do the original chickenwire idea, you could also add a colorful patterned print behind the wire.. gathered in the center.

I bought some cabinet grade plywood and just built a frame around the perimeter out of solid wood. A table saw makes it easier to get good square cuts on the plywood. Not exactly cheap, but the correct way to get nice doors.
