Kitchen CABINET problem?
April 22nd, 2008 | by admin |O->–< asked:
I bought all new hardware (knobs and pulls) for my kitchen cabinets. After taking the old hardware off, I noticed that it has left marks (a bit of an indentation and a slightly lighter color of wood where the hardware covered). Is there anything I can do rather than sanding and re-staining all of my cabinets? Many thanks!
I’m pretty sure they’re oak cabinets.
Thanks for all of the great suggestions!!

It is probably due to the wood darkening with light exposure.
I would just leave it to catch up. If it really bothers you, get a lacquer-based touch up marker (not Minwax that is simply a stain and will wipe off) and color in the light areas.

Depending on what your cabinets are made of. Pine,Oak,Cherry… If the indentions are larger then the new harware then use wood filler and then sand. Most fillers come in different colors that will most likely match or come close to the original color. Then all you have to do is blend it in with the stain.
Hope this helps.

You can do what Bobs said but you can also try some Old English on the spots. (Old English is a stain like product you wipe on and off to get the color to blend depending on how long you let it set before wiping off.

When refinishing antique furniture like I do , I use a combination of different things. minwax pencils , the right shade of a paste shoe polish works goo , sometimes even my wifes eyebroe pencil. The trick is to test the color in a spot that will not show , then you will know.
