Kitchen cabinet recommendations?
March 27th, 2008 | by admin |BJ L asked:
I am going to remodel my kitchen, including replacing my cabinets. I don’t need anything fancy, but do want to be able to access the wasted space in the corners where I can’t even reach now, with my current cabinets. That’s why I’m not considering refacing. I don’t want to buy junk, but I don’t want to pay for a name, either. I want decent cabinets that will last awhile. Thanks for your recommendations!

i just did my kitchen and I got my cabinets from IKEA and I am very happy with them and I didn’t spend over 2000 for a 10by13 foot kitchen. Good luck

I have seen on two different decorating shows, cabinets from Ikea. I don’t usually recommend Ikea, but thought I would pass that on. You could ask around, see if anyone has actually put them in their home. Good luck and congrats on remodelling.

get them made from real plyboard, not that pressed saw dust and glue as they fall apart if water gets to them

Use treated plywood 3/4″ thk. for the top and the doors and 1/2″ thk. for the back attached to the wall. Use ball bearings drawer sliders. I love Cabinets made of real wood with natural finishes but the plastic laminates offer a great variety of patterns and colors. If you want to use the corner spaces make a 45 degree angle instead of a right angle and put a door to access the corner. If you have extra money consider the granite natural stone for the top, especially is the kitchen is small, is beautiful and durable. Don’t use artificial tops like Corian because they can break with heat.
Good luck.

I am retired and I build kitchen cabinets for a hobby. (2 -3 kitchens a year) I would suggest you seek out an individual like me who lives in your area. I use “easy reach” shelves in base corner cabinets. The modules are built with melamine with oak cabinet board glued to the sides and solid oak frames and doors. My cost for a 10′ section of cabinets would be $2000. including installation. Good Luck!
