sil asked:

I am thinking about refinishing my kitchen cabinets and to have it painted white. It doesn’t seem like I can get concealed hinges . Should I not worry about exterior hinges as being passe and buy white hinges to blend with the cabinet color or should I spend twice the amount and reface only to get the concealed hinges. My cabinets are in great shape with 3/4 inch solid wood. Also I have a contemporary/traditional decor

Hinges look really nice when the hardware is clean and uniform. If your current hinges aren’t neat, switch to white. Invisible hinges are really popular but sometimes they can make a kitchen look cold. If you can’t currently afford it but know that you will want to change to them someday, just clean up your current set. If its not a priority, get the white ones. Hope that helps!

that is a matter of taste the most important thing is buy quality hardware, concealed hinges are in style, But styles change. styles change think about it their are literally 1000’s of styles. You must live with your decision. Personally I would save the money and use exposed hinges they are easy to install and and less expensive I would not use white but brass or a complimentary color but that is my opinion, I have built some really ugly things and the homeowner loved them.

I would say that the answer to this question depends on the style of the cabinets themselves. I worked at a cabinet manufacturing plant. If your cabinets are more of a rustic country style, then leaving the hinges on the outside will look great. However, if they are more modern, then concealed hinges would look best to create a streamlined effect.
Whats another hundred dollars to spend on quality hinges, when you’ve already updated your kitchen? Doing what looks best will not only enhance the renovation already done, but help with any resale potential in the future.
For more help, go to a store that sells cabinets, and just have a look to see which style matches your existing cabinets. They will have the style of hinges that look best, and you can take some advice from that!
      Goodluck!
