What are some good tips, for remodeling a kitchen?

Emidy asked:

I am going to try and help my mother remodel the house. She has decided since we use the kitchen the most, to start in it first. My mother and I have never really done any remodeling before, so I need some tips, like what to do first, and things like that.

I know she wants to get a new sink, and counter tops, along with painting the walls.

I am looking for any ideas, websites, and tips from experience.

Please help!!!!

Get professional help- this is a high cost project. Even places llike Lowes and HOme Depot are a good source of info.

      Check out:

They can give you a lot of tips on how to remodel and even for reasonable prices. Some of their tv shows remodel rooms for under $1000 or $500 even. They will even give you full instructions on how to do most projects, including full rooms. Have fun!

I would highly advise you to a hire a consultant or a decorator who would not be afraid to be honest with you. Kitchen remodeling done well will add value and enjoyment to the house. Poorly done remodeling and shortcuts, poor color schemes and inadequate or inappropriate/mixed decorating will totally devastate your resale when the time comes. This is really not the time to have amateurs do something to an important room of a house. Even if you plan to be in the house forever, eventually it will be sold and excellent renovations will only have positive impact on the sale.
